Coming from the combined minds and talents of Portuguese multi-discipline artist Batida and rapper Ikonoklasta, IKOQWE are presenting their first release, ‘VaiVai’. Taking an experimental dive into the afrobeat genre, the track is pretty addictive right from its opening moments. There are elements of retro video game music hidden in the background, while shuffling beats and wobbly basslines prove an impressive talent for electronic composition. While political messages are rife within, they aren’t afraid to lead things down a more light-hearted route, with an almost cartoonish music video following two colourful characters as they drive through a desert before launching into space. This is a truly unique collaboration and it’ll be very interesting to see what they get up to next. - Dan Peeke
